Island Dance offers Disco Freestyle and Hip Hop exams for all students ages 3-18 to take part in once a year at the end of our second term. The exam requires students to perform dance routines that they have learnt in class with a partner in front of an external examiner from the UK. The students’ class teacher will be present during their exam and for the younger students, they will be able to assist.
The exams are about providing encouragement, confidence and a sense of achievement for our students. The examiners are looking not only for good dance technique but performance quality and stage presence as well. We make sure all of our students are very well prepared as the teachers work hard in class to train them to perform their routines to a high standard. 80% of all our students perform extremely well and receive “Highly Commended” marks.

Island Dance offers both RAD Exams and Class Awards.
The exams require our students to perform set exercises and dances assessed by an RAD examiner. Each student will then receive a results form, and all students who perform to the required standard receive a certificate and a medal. These graded exams lead to worldwide recognized achievement at a high level in dance. Exams are available for students Grade 1 and above, who attend 2 or more classes per week.
Class Awards are conducted by the teacher and assessment is less detailed than for exams, allowing candidates to demonstrate their progress and to receive feedback. These awards are available for Pre-Primary to Grade 3 level students, who attend one class per week. All exams and awards are assessed externally by one of a panel of 200 examiners, appointed, trained and monitored by the RAD, and based in 25 countries around the world. Island Dance ballet students who have taken both exams and class awards have consistently performed well and received high marks.
