1) What is Creative Dance?
Creative Dance is a class designed for our youngest budding disco stars! Learning dance whilst having fun is the best way to learn. With lots of encouragement and positive teaching these children learn dance exercises and technique appropriate to their age of 3.5 – 5 years, such as skipping, reaching, stretching and short routines to the words of Walt Disney, The Wiggles, Play School and many other favourite songs. These little ones will be improving their posture, finer motor skills, concentration, rhythm, social skills and memory together with having a lot of fun. A great class for boys too!

2) What is Disco Freestyle?
Rihanna, Sugarbabes , Timbaland, Mika , . . . we dance to them all! In this class, children will learn a more relaxed and informal style of dance, similar to MTV style moves, where students can improve their dance skills very quickly giving them confidence and a new talent.
All classes start with a warm-up followed by a series of strengthening and stretching exercises to teach the students the basics of dance techniques. Through regular attendance they will learn all the fundamentals for a talented dancer and performer with lots of funky dance routines! |

5) If I come to class what shall I wear?
Wear lose comfortable clothing, e.g. shorts and a T-shirt. Do not wear jeans. Bare feet are fine for a Disco Freestyle class rather than sports trainers that do not bend easily and are not soft enough to use the feet properly. If you are trying a TAP CLASS, wear a low shoe with a hard sole and buckle or cross strap (not a slip on shoe that may fall off the heel). A rubber sole or sport shoe is not suitable.

7) Where and how can I get my uniform and shoes?
All uniforms for PINK and PURPLE classes can be ordered through Island Dance. The office also carries Bloch sneakers, black Jazz shoes and ballet slippers. You can ask your teacher for an order form, fill it in (noting foot size in centimetres for shoes) and hand it back to her with payment. You may also send it to the Island Dance office. You will then receive your uniform or shoes in the class the following week. Please feel free to ring the office with any queries. We do not supply Tap shoes so please ask your teacher for details of the supplier in Hong Kong.
All other uniforms may be purchased from SportsWorld in the Discovery Bay Plaza. Please contact them directly for orders on 2914-1323 or bruce@sportsworld.hk. |

8) Can I have dance sneakers rather than jazz shoes?
Yes, of course you can if you are 12 years old. If you are younger than 12,we do not recommend them until your feet are stronger and your technique and foot work have gained the ability to use the sneaker properly. You cannot use them in shows or exams until you are 12.

9) Can I watch my child/ren's class?
As this is a popular request, we regularly schedule ‘watching weeks’ at the end of terms. You will receive a notice through class and in the newsletter as to when these are.

10) Do you have exams and is it compulsory to do them?
We hold I.S.T.D. (Imperial Society of Teachers and Students of Dance) exams once a year, as well as RAD (Royal Academy of Dance) ballet exams. Although not compulsory, we feel them to be a very positive part of our dance curriculum. Please read our blog to view latest dates and information.

11) Can I move up a class to the next level?
All classes are grouped into age categories, and so if you have had a birthday and need to move up, just confirm with your teacher first in case of any up coming events or shows. We rarely make any exceptions for students wanting to join a class who is not of the right age for the class. |
